Collection Summary

Abstract

This collection includes notes, writings, photocopies, and other secondary research materials gathered by Edwin Gittleman, professor of English at UMass/Boston, for his book on Robert Gould Shaw and the Massachusetts 54th Volunteer Infantry. Also includes course materials, lectures, correspondence, and a pictorial portfolio on the subject. The book was not completed prior to Professor Gittleman's death in 1996.

Gift of Mrs. Edwin Gittleman, Lexington, Mass., May 1998. Mrs. Gittleman retains the literary rights to the collection. See Curator of Manuscripts for more information.
