This journal, written by Middlecott Cooke in 1734, describes his voyage to St. George’s Fort near what is now Thomaston, Maine. Two versions of this journal exist, a less-polished, 6-page first version (shown here) and a more-detailed 7-page version. This first version contains information that is not included in the second, 7-page version, notably the final four sentences about the journey. [Robert E. Moody, The Saltonstall Family Papers, 1607-1815, Vol. 1: 1607-1789, (Boston: Massachusetts Historical Society, 1972), page 380.]
