The Strong Fast, or, Hypocrisy in the Suds: a Hymn for the Occasion
Republicans ridiculed Governor Strong's call for a Fast Day in response to the declaration of war. They compared Massachusetts Federalists to their Puritan ancestors who had scourged the weak and innocent: Quakers, religious dissenters ("heretics"), and supposed witches.
