    In this famous oration, delivered before the Phi Beta Kappa Society at Cambridge, Mass., Transcendentalist Ralph Waldo Emerson encouraged his listeners to become "Man Thinking," rather than "a mere thinker, or, still worse, the parrot of other men's thinking."
