This is a letter from the Committee for Hiring Men and the selectmen of Waltham, Massachusetts, to an unspecified addressee regarding Phelix Cuff.  The selectmen of Waltham assert that Phelix Cuff was lawfully employed in the town militia and that Edward Gearfield [Garfield], Cuff's owner, had no claim to the man or his "arms and accoutrements."
