In this letter written in October 1795 to Jeremy Belknap, John Adams continues to share his thoughts about the issues of slavery and abolition, topics initially prompted by St. George Tucker's queries. Adams suggests that "Justice" for slaves should involve the cessation of the slave trade and the liberation of the native slave population "by Degrees."
