This iron yoke slave collar was cut from the neck of a young New Orleans plantation slave who had run away from her mistress, Madame Coutrell. Captain S. Tyler Read of the 3rd Mass. Cavalry had the yoke cut from the girl's neck soon after the Federal occupation of New Orleans.
