Publications Department
The Publications Department produces a portion of
the Society's general publications. Initiated in 1792 to pursue the "disseminate" portion of the Society's
founding mission, the institution's editorial activities have
over the course of two centuries grown into a respected publications
department responsible for bringing hundreds of volumes into
print. The venerable Collections series, now numbering
over 90 volumes, comprises thorough documentary editions
drawn from the wealth of invaluable papers in the Society's
archive. More recent publishing initiatives for the Society
include collections of essays on historical topics, illustrated
paperbacks, and
Massachusetts Historical Review, an annual journal.
Other publishing branches of the Society include The Adams Papers,
devoted to the creation of a comprehensive edition of the
Adams Papers collection based at the MHS.
