The Vega Vieja estate, sometimes known as "Le Vega," adjoined Edwin Atkins's Soledad plantation along the Arimao River.  It was developed by the Sanchez and Yznaga families, two of Cienfuegos's original sugar-planting families.  Atkins eventually purchased Le Vega in the late 1890s and added its lands to his business at Soledad.
