Edwin Atkins and his successors for many years ran a school on the Soledad plantation for the children of E. Atkins & Co.'s employees.  This photograph depicts children from the Soledad school circa 1950, dressed up for a performance for the annual end-of-season festivities on the plantation.  Atkins's great-grandson, John W. Weeks, Jr. (grandson of Atkins's daughter Helen) is the blond boy facing the camera in the second row.
