In addition to General Jacob Brown, the guests were Quartermaster General Thomas Sidney Jesup (1788–1860), Sylvanus Thayer (1785–1872), the superintendent of the United States Military Academy at West Point, and Joseph S. Nelson, of the third infantry regiment ( DAB ; Heitman, Register U.S. Army ).
