. Israel Evans (1747–1807) of Tredyffin, Penna., Princeton 1772, served as chaplain of the 1st Regiment of the
New York Line, the 1st and 2d New York Regiments, and the 3d New Hampshire Regiment.
Following the battle of Yorktown, Evans delivered the celebratory sermon before the
troops. He did not settle in Weymouth but accepted the call of the Old North Church
in Concord, N.H., where he served as permanent minister from 1789 to 1797. The Evans
