21. Bourne to Lane, Son & Fraser, Halifax, 31 Dec. 1775, DNA
Microcopy 162, Case 30, No. 7, repeating the information about the bill of exchange in his letter of 3 Nov., note
above, and adding: “You will further note that the Brigantine [Lusanna] was seized as the property of Elisha Doane Esqr.
of Eastham who belongs to New England by virtue of a general order from Lord Dartmouth.” He then reported that he had obtained the vessel's release at Boston and was about to sail for London, having drawn a second bill of exchange for necessaries. The letter bears the apparently incorrect date of 3 Dec. at the head. The date 31 Dec. which appears at the end is more likely, because Bourne was reported to have been in Boston as late as the 13th. Id.,
Nos. 112, 113.
