comment is a reference to the altercation between Murray and Brattle (see Editorial Note
's notes on the legal case that resulted survive, erroneously endorsed by
: “Draught of part of an Article upon the attack made by Colonel Murray upon General
Brattle” (Adams Papers, Microfilms
, Reel No. 343, filmed under conjectural date of Aug. 1763). These notes were probably
made shortly before the hearing on 5 July 1763 in the Inferior Court of Common Pleas.
