1. The electoral college awarded Jackson 99 votes, JQA 84, Crawford 41, and Clay 37.
JQA won all of New England, the great majority of New York votes, and a few
scattered tallies. Since no candidate won a majority of the electoral votes, the
election was thrown into the House of Representatives. See Bemis, JQA, 2:30.
