Arose early this morning and went down to take a bath. Found the water delicious.
Returning, occupied myself very much in packing up my various little things and making
the preparations for my removal. This took up the whole day and I barely escaped at
six o’clock to go to Quincy. Found the family expecting me. Took a short walk with
Thomas B. Adams Jr. who has returned from West Point and is now on the world as an
Army Officer. The evening passed in conversation. I could not write to my father today.
