1. The House was again debating George McDuffie’s proposed constitutional amendment which
would have altered the system of electing the President and Vice President (see entry
for 16 Jan. 1824, and note, above). McDuffie spoke at length in favor of the amendment (Register of Debates in Congress, 19 Cong., 1 sess., 2:1365–1376).
