1. Sir Francis Buller’s An Introduction to the Law Relative to Trials at Nisi Prius, first published in London in 1768, went through several editions.
2. Joseph Lovell (1788–1836), a Bostonian who served as surgeon general of the Army from 1818 to 1836 (DAB).
