Thanksgiving day. Mr. Hilliard, preached a very long sermon, but none of the best.
He appeared to have laboured much, and I thought quite without success. Indeed he
thought perhaps there was no reason for giving thanks considering the Situation of
the Country, and this makes him the more excusable. Bridge and I went down after meeting
to Judge Dana's; dined, and passed the afternoon and evening there.
