. See John Quincy Adams 2d to Charles Francis Adams, 5 February 1867 (Adams Papers
). All three brothers, however, made exceptions for family letters. John Quincy Adams
2d's exchanges with his father survive intact and in 1955 were presented to the Adams Papers
by his daughter, Mrs. Robert Homans. Some years earlier both sides of Henry and Brooks
Adams' correspondence had been given by Mrs. Homans to the Houghton Library at Harvard.
