113. This “Index” is designated as Diary No. 1 (D/CFA/1) in the Adams Papers serial numbering of the Charles Francis Adams diaries. In the microfilm edition of the Adams Papers its serial number is 608, for the volume was not discovered by the present Adams family until after the major diaries had been filmed. The 132-page book measures 8 7/8” × 7 3/16” The inscription on the first page reads, “Index commencing January 1820,” and the spine is labeled simply “Index.”
