). For the replies themselves, first published in the Mercure de France,

May to Edmé Jacques Genet (both above). Unfortunately the issues of the London General Advertiser and Morning Intelligencer
in which JA
's pieces appeared, over the signature “Probus,” have not been found, thus the nature
of Jenings' alterations cannot be determined.
