- "Adams's furnishing the French ambassador with a list of American vessels that had arrived that year at Cronstadt...also furnishing a copy of the same list to Mr. Russell at Paris and notifying Russell of the motive in which the list was requested: to obtain a more speedy liberation of any of the vessels captured by the French privateers said to be stationed at the passage of the Sound [Oresund].
