"I have been oblidged to see Lombard once more after writing and speaking to him several times to no purpose. This day he comes and begs that I would not enter into the action and produced an account against you which I here enclose. If I should enter the action it will put the miserable animal to great charge, and as he cannot file his account against a Judgement of Court, he must be put to his action against you, which if he should recover just a trifle, would carry more cost than the debt is he demands. So that upon the whole I have decided to take his note to you, for the judgement of it, on interest, and to inclose his account to you, that you may consider of it and write me positive orders what to allow...If you determine not to allow any articles in his account, please to point out to me what those articles are, and it will be best for me to tender his what you will allow, that in case he should sue, you may have a chance to screen yourself...We are all well, and remain yours &c John Adams."
