Archival Notes: Duplicate (in form of a press copy) of Murray's letter expressing gratitude for his appointment of minister to French Directory. This copy is endorsed in an unidentified hand: "Recd in Quincy Aug. 28. 1799." No other copy of this letter is in the file. Found attached (although perhaps originally separate) is a copy (also in the form of a presscopy) of a letter from Talleyrand to Murray, 23 floreal, l'an 7 (12 May 1799), attested "True Copy" of Murray, 18 May 1799, which may have been enclosed in this duplicate or in a later letter to JA. This has now been transferred to Murray to JA, 17 May 1799 (
