Archival Note: This was originally bound with 1837 and erroneously filmed at that date, despite being clearly dated 1 Dec. 1835. It was in September of 1835 that J.H. Payne got into a controversy involving John Ross, head of the Cherokee Nation, and was arrested by the Georgia Guards. After his release, he went to Knoxville. See DAB. Entered by ER 11/24/2015
