This collection consists of research materials gathered by Charles Edward Banks, including copies and extracts of original documents and his manuscript notes, relating to Martha's Vineyard, Mass. The material was gathered in preparation for his 3-volume work The History of Martha's Vineyard, Dukes County, Massachusetts (Boston: G. H. Dean, 1911-25). Subjects include Dukes County land records, local history, family genealogical information, the Wampanoag, Methodist Churches, historical maps, a description of Martha's Vineyard, Martha's Vineyard in the American Revolution, and vital statistics. Also included is specific information about villages on the island.
