Guide to the Photograph Collection
Abstract
This collection consists of photograph albums of the interrelated Dwight, Iasigi, and Warren families.
Collection Description
This collection consists of photographs of the Dwight, Warren, and Iasigi families descended from Thomas Dwight, Sr. of Boston and his wife Mary Collins Warren. Represented in the first album are three of their children: physician and anatomist Thomas Dwight; physician and "Father of American tennis" James Dwight; and Mary Veronica Dwight. Thomas and James Dwight married sisters Sarah and Elizabeth Iasigi, the daughters of merchant and Turkish Consul Joseph Iasigi of Boston and his wife Eulalie Loir. In addition to Sarah and Elizabeth, sons Oscar and Joseph and daughter Octavia Iasigi and their families are represented in the first album.
The second album focuses on the family of John Collins Warren and wife Susan Powell Mason Warren, including their children Jonathan Mason Warren, Susan Powell Warren (later Lyman), and Emily Warren (later Appleton). Loose photographs include photographs of the interior of the Joseph Iasigi home at 43 Mount Vernon St. in Boston.
The collection includes cabinet card photographs, cartes de visite, tintypes, and copy photographs. Identified photographers include William M. Wires of Lynn and J. W. Black, J. A. Whipple, Allen & Rowell, and Metcalf & Welldon of Boston, among many others.
