In this letter, Howard Dwight (1837-1863) relates the state of Union affairs in Missouri to his father, William Dwight, Sr. (1805-1880). Having recently arrived in St. Louis with the 1st U.S. Western Cavalry, Howard shares his thoughts about the command of Major General John C. Frémont and his own attempts to secure a commission from Frémont.
