In this letter, Lieutenant Charles F. Morse (1839-1926), describes to his brother, Robert McNeil Morse (1837-1920), the poor conditions that the Second Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry endured during the long winter months of 1862. He also tells of adventures shared with his good friend and fellow officer, Lieutenant Robert Gould Shaw, while on a brief leave to visit friends stationed in Annapolis.
