This portrait of William Porter (1743-1813) is attributed to Edward Savage (1761-1817) circa 1805.

William Porter was born in Braintree, Massachusetts in 1743, the son of Dr. Jonathan and Hannah (Hayden) Porter. He married Mary Lamb in 1781. A distiller by trade, Porter served as a selectman of the town of Boston from 1798 to 1811. He died in Boston in 1813.
