An infantry hanger sword blade reputed to have been carried by Major John Pitcairn (1722-1775) who was mortally wounded at the Battle of Bunker Hill.

John Pitcairn was born in Scotland in 1722. He was commissioned a captain in the Royal Marines in 1756 and a major in 1771. He arrived in Boston in 1774 when British troops were stationed in the city, and was in Concord on the night of 18 April 1775, under General Gage, to seize rebel military stores. He died in the Battle of Bunker Hill in 1775.
