On Prospect Hill were anxious groups,
All eager for the fray;
Their hearts had long defiance hurl'd,
Though every voice was still,
Untill old Putnam here un furl'd,

II. Sublime the motto which it bore,
"Appeal to heaven's high throne"
That he who brought them to this shore,
Would guard them as his own;
And here they stood, this gallant band,

III. While fervent prayer to heaven ascends,
