Dec. 29

Since I wrote the first part of this
letter we have been so busily engaged
in laying out our camp and building
permanent quarters that I have not
had time to resume the pen. Now, how–
ever, our house is completed, and in–
stead of writing on the top of my
valise in a pup tent, I sit at a
table, the work of our own hands, before
a bright fire. The reg’t is out at
a Corps review to-day, and being a
little under the weather I stay at home
and busy myself in making out
muster rolls and squaring up Company
accounts for this quarter. We have had
a touch of wintry weather the last
two days, quite a change from that
of which I complained in my last
when we were really suffering from
the heat on Argylle Island. By the way,
as I forget whether I have acknowledged
the receipt of your letters since the camp–
aign, I will say that I have one from
C.S.S. Nov. 6, L.C.S. Nov. 8. C.S. & L.C.S. Nov. 13
L.C.S. Nov. 26. I wrote one, which should
have been numbered No. 9. of date Dec. 18,
from Argylle Island. Ihave also wrote
on Christmas day to Grandfather.
