If by the 8th. inst. I should not receive some Answer from
you, I shall on
that day send her on to you-- I am aware
of the great tenderness due to the
Reputation of a Member of C-- in
his own district--but the thing is urgent
&ca. I repeat and
do assure you that she is to my belief, pure and
innocent as an
angel--though she has not the most remote affinity to me-- I am
under a
Sacred obligation to protect her--
If you Vote uniform for P. he may probably be Prest. for
A. will in no event
have a single Vote in S.C.-- Maryland
is equally divided-- Penna. probably
no Vote--

Your Portsmouth letter (23) has come since writing the above--T's
ankle
is no better-- There is in Phila. a famous Rubber-of-Ankles to
whom I
think to take her-- I do not ask why you are at P--
but how long you
are to stay there would have been a satisfactory
piece of information--

ted--
