& a half miles off, We imme
-diately proceeded to obey orders
& ascended the mountain to
the designated point & went
into battery but before we could
load all our pieces the
Rebels opened upon us
with a masked battery only
one Hundred & Twenty five yards
distant with grape & cannister some of our pieces
fired 3 or
4 Rounds & the shots coming
so fast & the Lieu'ts & Captains
having disappeared (most
of them having skedaddled)
the men became panic
struck & skedaddled
