This portrait of Sarah Lloyd Borland, wife of Leonard Vassall Borland and mother of six children, was completed by Gilbert Stuart (1755-1828) around 1818.

Sarah Lloyd Borland was born in 1762. She married Leonard Vassall Borland and bore six children. Leonard Borland was a Boston merchant who, in 1787, sold his grandfather's home in Braintree to John Adams. Sarah Borland died in Boston in 1839.
