This portrait depicts Amerigo Vespucci. This portrait is included in a list of portraits in the Massachusetts Historical Society published in 1883; (see MHS collections, series III, v. 7). A portrait of Vespucci was among the Thomas Jefferson collection of paintings sold at Harding’s Gallery, Boston, in 1833, but it is unclear whether this is the same portrait.
