Rectangular red morocco leather folding pocketbook with scalloped edge on closing flap and sides stitched together with linen thread. Front is entirely embroidered in trapunto satin stitch design of metallic threads over a linen stitched base. Embroidered beneath the flap on the red leather is “IOHN BREED / 1732” in metallic thread, and “TETUAN” embroidered within a geometric frame on the back. Remains of blue silk interior lining and a serrated edge leather flap are inside the pocketbook. Souvenir pocketbooks of this design were made in northern Morocco and in Turkey from the late 17th century to the 1770s.
