[ This description is from the project: Fashioning the New England Family ]
Found in the stacks in 1974, this woman’s dress has no provenance. Dress is comprised of a bodice and skirt in celadon green silk with copper undertone. The sleeves of this lightweight silk bodice now have slightly bouffant caps over pleated tucks in the upper arms with a triple layer of ruffles below, expertly refashioned from their original billowy style. The front-closing bodice is high-waisted and shaped with diagonal box pleats from shoulders to slightly pointed hem at center front. The offset front seam of the bell-shaped skirt has a series of green silk bows sewn down the seamline. A matching triangular pelerine has a ruffled hem along the two short sides.
