My Dearest Friend: The Love, Lives & Legacy of Abigail & John Adams

MHS Event
MHS Adams Papers staff
This is an in-person only event.
Learn what made John and Abigail Adams America’s original power couple. Enjoy refreshments as you move around the MHS in an entertaining evening of interactive presentations by Adams Papers editors and displays showcasing letters and artifacts from the Adams Presidential Library.
In a 23 July 1777 letter to her dearest Friend, Abigail writes: “Could I see my Friend in reality as I often do in immagination I think I should feel a happiness beyond expression.” Hear excerpts such as this from Abigail’s and John’s correspondence that explore the couple’s private moments and public partnership. Discover how the Adamses built and sustained their relationship and worked together to craft their legacy.
This program received support from the National Endowment for the Humanities and was developed with the Adams Presidential Library.
