22. I called this morning at Mr: Dennie’s lodgings, and sat with him a couple of hours— Received a number of visits— Mr: BurrCommodore PrebleMr: Ewing— And several other Gentlemen— In the Evening we went to the Play. The performances were Arthur and Emmeline— The Widow of Malabar— And High Life Below Stairs— All very indifferent— The principal performer in two of the plays, being suddenly taken ill did not appear, and his parts were read by another— Mr: and Mrs: Turnbull whom we found as boarders at Mrs: Roberts’s went with us. Mr: Breck, Mr: Francis and Mr: Ewing called to see us in our box.
