23. Pass’d the day principally in paying and receiving
visits— I called on Mr: Burr, and also on Commodore Preble, but did not find
the latter— We went with the Ladies to
Peale’s Museum— Saw his
Mammoth Skeleton, which is incomplete, and which I believe to be a
moderate sized elephant— I dined with Mr: Ewing— Mr: Charles
Nicholas came in after dinner— Spent the Evening, with
Mrs: Adams at Dr:
