26. Mrs: Adams is quite recovered this day.— George is better but yet so unwell that we cannot safely proceed. Mr: Dennie was here this morning, and I spent the forenoon chiefly with him; comparing my translation of Juvenal’s 7th: Satire with Owens— We had not Giffords at hand— In the afternoon, the ladies took tea at Mrs: Ewing’s, and pass’d the Evening at a Ball at Mr: James S. Cox’s, by whose Lady they were yesterday invited.— Found there a numerous and splendid company— Among other persons whom we met there was Nancy Smith; from Newark; whom we met quite unexpectedly— It was pass’d midnight when we came home.
