This word is a variant of “dornick,” a “coarse damask usually employed for making curtains and hangings.” Dictionary of American English, 11. 799. One illustration (1648) given there has the spelling “darnicle.” A “danakell Coverlette” is listed in the inventory of Lionel Chute’s estate, Ipswich, 1645. Probate Records of Essex County, 1. 48.
