we the elders and brethren of the church of christ at Lyn haueing of late seriously weighed our greate need of a Faithful wise and wachfull magistrate to be among vs and of vs for our better furtherance in matters that concerne our owne and others good haue ioyntly pitched our thoughts vppon mr. Bradstreete for the man: and accordingly haue made the motion to him who as we perceiue principally sticketh vppon some Ingagements to others: though not clear therein whether ingaged to them at Ipswich (from whome he sayth his thoughts were that he had beene more fair than some would indeauour to perswade that he is) or whether Ingaged to others in the business of Mirimeck: for that he seemeth to question whether he be free from one of the two soe as to satisfy our desires of him; only he is resolued to take it into his serious thoughts and to aduise about it. wherefore we are bold to Intreate your worships for your further aduise and Incouragement herein not doubting but you will be pleased to take our present condition to hart and helpe what you may in a case soe nearly concerning vs and we conceiue also the common good: supposing it will be more for publique good that god hauinge lately lessened your number partly by death and partly by other prouidences that such an one as we Judge mr. Bradstreete to be should rather be nearer than soe far off. As for Accommodations some way suitable to such a worthy man we are freely willinge to come off that way to our vtmost ability and we hope to his content and soe perswadinge our selues that you will freely and fully aduise and further vs herein we humbly take our leaues and rest, your worships in all seruice according to God
