- This letter has been redated to ca. 5 Jan. 1813 and the recipient re-identified to Elizabeth Smith (b. 1770) based on internal evidence. - AMN & SM 5/20/16
- Pencilled note "Written after the death of Elizabeth Storer Smith 1786." This is Elizabeth Storer Smith (1726–1786). Louisa's "sister Foster" is Elizabeth (Smith) Foster (daughter of AA's brother William) who married James H. Foster, Nov. 1798 (HRC Genealogy).
- Xerox print in Accessions File (June, 1964)
- Elizabeth Smith's scrapbook has been disbound and is now part of the Smith-Townsend Family Papers. This letter has been removed from the scrapbook section of the papers and is now in chronological order amongst other correspondence. ER 10/27/2015
