I have this moment received your kind Letter of the 15th. and congratulate you on your Arrival in New
England.1
If you will do me the Honour to take a Family Dinner with me on Sunday at Two o Clock you will very much oblige your old Friend and faithful humble Servant

Hammond, on a summer tour that included New York City
and Boston, wrote to JA on 15 Aug. to make dinner plans
(Adams Papers). The
Boston press welcomed the British minister as “a gentleman, whose
attachment for this country, has exhibited itself in every measure”
(Philadelphia Federal Gazette, 21 July;
Boston Columbian Centinel, 29 Aug.).
