Showery day. The decline of the season is now visible in the cort├Ęge in Rotten row, and the evening drive in the Park. Our engagements likewise are almost at an end. This wa a perfectly private day. I wrote a long letter to my son Charles, and paid a visit to Mr Charles Lyman who is still detained by his condition from returning home. I greatly doubt whether he ever gets there. his appearance during the two months since I arrived indicates steady decline. I then took a walk. The evening passed at home.
