Annual Fiori Lecture: French Material Culture in the Revolutionary Atlantic

MHS Event
Dr. Ashli White, University of Miami
This is a hybrid event. FREE for MHS Members. $10 per person fee (in person). No charge for virtual attendees or Card to Culture participants (EBT, WIC, and ConnectorCare). The in-person reception starts at 5:30 and the program will begin at 6:00.
Focusing on a range of objects, Ashli White makes surprising connections between French objects and their influence on political movements throughout the revolutionary Atlantic World. In a recent interview with NEH, she says "objects are active: people affect things and things affect lives in fundamental and sometimes unforeseen ways." Join us as she considers how diverse populations turned to these items as part of their attempts to realize liberty and equality.
When the Marquis de Lafayette, revolutionary hero, returned to the United States in 1824-1825, his tour resulted in the production of commemorative objects. In-person program attendees will have the opportunity to see some of these items from our collection.
This talk is part of an annual lecture series in honor of President Emeritus Dennis Fiori in recognition of his leadership. The lecture series is made possible by gifts from friends of the Society.
The in-person reception starts at 5:30 and the program will begin 6:00 PM. If you have questions about the in-person event, please contact Olivia Sayah at 617-646-0580, or osayah@masshist.org.
